Injuries have been an issue for Street in recent years (including an elbow injury in 2007), but he has made 60 or more appearances in three of his four major league seasons.

As for Corpas, he struggled in April last season (four blown saves, 6.47 ERA) and would ultimately lose his job as Rockies' closer to the now departed Brian Fuentes and finish 2008 with four saves in 13 opportunities. In 2007, Corpas had 19 saves in 22 chances with a 2.08 ERA in 78 appearances.

Both Street (26 on 8/2/09) and Corpas (26) are young and should be in their prime. Street will need to stay healthy to keep the job, and his flyball rate (41% last season, over 40% in each of the last three seasons) seems to make him ill-suited to pitching at Coors Field. On the flipside, his strikeout rate (8.9 K/9 last season, 11.3 K/9 in 2007) is closer-worthy.

Corpas has a tendency to induce a lot of groundballs (50% groundball rate in 2008, 57% in 2007), but his strikeout rate dropped last season (5.6 K/9, down from 6.7 in 2007). His velocity dropped last season, which probably explains his drop in strikeouts. Corpas also suffered from some bad luck last season, with a .330 BABIP. If Street struggles with injuries or is ineffective, Corpas could easily be closing games for Colorado again.

Both Street and Corpas are worth owning in all leagues at this point, given that the situation has a chance to be very fluid. If you're a Corpas owner, he could still be worth keeping in your starting lineup even though he is not looking likely to get many save opportunities early in the season. If you own Street, cross your fingers that he can stay healthy and hang onto the job all season. Street should be added in all league formats right now if he is available.
